Renault has launched a new international campaign focused on raising awareness among young drivers about the dangers of excessive speed. As part of its broader “Human First Program,” the campaign features Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly and introduces a new safety feature aimed at reducing road fatalities involving drivers under 35.

Why Renault Is Targeting Speeding Among Young Drivers

According to global traffic safety data, 52% of fatal accidents involving excessive speed are caused by individuals under the age of 35. Road accidents remain the leading cause of death among young adults, highlighting the urgent need for action.

Renault’s latest initiative seeks to educate and empower this high-risk demographic through a powerful message: speed belongs on the track, not on public roads.

Pierre Gasly Leads the Campaign with a Global Awareness Film

In a new film debuting during the Japanese Grand Prix on April 6, Pierre Gasly of the BWT Alpine Formula One® Team plays the role of a mentor. He guides a young driver through the iconic Monaco Grand Prix circuit in a Renault Clio. The goal? To reinforce the message that performance driving has its place in a controlled racing environment.

The campaign is being broadcast internationally on TV and promoted across social media channels, especially targeting the 18–24-year-old age group. In France, the message will also appear in a two-page newspaper spread beginning April 10.

Renault’s “Human First Program”: A 360° Safety Approach

Renault’s commitment to road safety is rooted in its Human First Program, which focuses on four key pillars:

  • Prevention
  • Correction
  • Protection
  • Rescue

The company develops safety technologies to act before, during, and after accidents. One standout initiative includes opening up its patented “fireman access” system for use by other automakers under a free license, streamlining emergency response during vehicle extractions.

“Safety Car” Speed Limiter: A Practical Solution for Young Drivers

Recognizing that the Clio is a popular choice for new drivers, Renault is introducing a speed-limiting feature for the vehicle. This optional add-on restricts the Clio’s top speed to 110 km/h.

How the Speed Limiter Works:

  • Installed post-sale through Renault’s service network
  • Adjusts the engine control unit to cap speed at 110 km/h
  • Limits cruise control and speed limiter settings accordingly
  • Fully reversible with a follow-up visit to the dealer

This feature is currently available in France at a launch price of €59 per installation.
