Anaheim, CA – April 29, 2025. Rehlko, a global leader in energy resilience, has signed an exclusive supply agreement with Toyota Motor North America to integrate hydrogen fuel cell modules into its stationary power generators. The announcement was made at the 2025 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Anaheim, where both companies showcased their shared vision for clean, scalable, and resilient energy solutions.

A Game-Changing Collaboration for Clean Energy

Under this landmark agreement, Toyota will supply its proven hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology to Rehlko, enabling the next generation of clean, zero-emission generators. These systems will be used in critical infrastructure like data centers, hospitals, warehouses, and off-grid facilities—locations that demand reliability without compromising sustainability.

“Toyota is excited to work with Rehlko to help build strong energy solutions using our scalable fuel cell technology,” said Thibaut de Barros Conti, General Manager of Toyota Hydrogen Solutions. “Together, we aim to deliver clean, reliable energy tailored to the needs of both customers and society.”

Powering the Future with Hydrogen

Hydrogen is gaining momentum as a preferred alternative fuel for stationary power, especially in applications where zero local emissions and high reliability are essential. Unlike diesel generators, Rehlko’s new hydrogen fuel cell systems produce only water vapor and air at the point of use, making them ideal for operations with sustainability goals and regulatory pressures.

Key Applications for Rehlko’s Hydrogen Fuel Cell Systems:

  • Emergency and backup power for data centers and hospitals
  • Off-grid energy solutions for remote facilities and infrastructure
  • Power resilience against grid failures and extreme weather events

Launching a 1MW Zero-Emission Generator

Rehlko is now offering its 1-megawatt (MW) hydrogen fuel cell generator—a major advancement in clean energy reliability.

“The 1MW fuel cell generator is a breakthrough for mission-critical operations,” said Charles Hunsucker, President of Power Systems at Rehlko. “It delivers the same reliability customers expect from traditional systems, but with zero local emissions. And it’s available to order today.”

From Rural Hospitals to Scalable Commercial Systems

This partnership builds on a successful pilot project where Rehlko and Toyota deployed a 100kW hydrogen fuel cell system at Klickitat Valley Health in Washington state. The system supported backup and secondary power generation for the rural hospital, proving the viability of fuel cells in healthcare infrastructure.

Based on that success, the two companies have co-developed a commercial-ready 1MW system to meet growing demand across industries. Rehlko is responsible for designing the full generator solution, while Toyota provides the hydrogen fuel cell modules at its Kentucky-based assembly facility.

Toyota’s Hydrogen Expertise Fuels the Partnership

Toyota has over 30 years of experience developing and testing hydrogen fuel cell technology, including the Toyota Mirai, one of the world’s first mass-market fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Its hydrogen modules have been validated in extreme temperatures ranging from -20°F to 150°F, and the company continues to scale its capabilities through its North American Hydrogen Headquarters (NA H2HQ) in Southern California.
